(VIDEO) Protestors Shout Down State’s Attorney at University of Chicago
In February 2016, the University of Chicago’s Institute of Politics I(IOP) hosted a series of speeches and discussions by candidates for Cook County State’s Attorney. This included controversial incumbent Anita Alvarez, who many had criticized for mishandling a police shooting of an unarmed black man. Protesters shouted down and swore and forced out Alvarez, which required a response in the student newspaper from the director of the IOP David Axelrod, a long-time Democrat strategist and adviser to President Obama. He blasted the protesters for interrupting Alvarez, and pointed out that they could have used the Q and A time to ask challenging questions, instead of making themselves look bad.
